It will be the first wedding show JPE has participated in and I could not have picked a more perfect one for JPE. The AWS has a boutique feel to it that caters to Southern Ontario brides serious about wedding inspiration and getting their wedding planning started. Tiffany, AWS Manager, has created a platform for vendors in Southern Ontario to showcase their skills and create an evening for bride-to-be’s to relax, enjoy and truly take in the talent that Southern Ontario wedding professionals have to offer. With a limited number of vendors chosen from each industry, it is appealing to all bride-to-be’s without being overwhelming.
JPE is teaming up with the incredibly talented Paula from La Fiora Floral & Event Design to create an eye-catching and unforgettable booth! Keep an eye out on Facebook and Instagram (@jackie_penner) for booth teasers leading up to March 21st!
And as always, I cannot wait to see my good friend and one-of-a-kind photographer, Brian Reilly. Constantly swooning over his stunning photos, I am so looking forward to working with him again on March 8th! Yay!
Be sure to follow JPE on social media for show information, coupons, and teasers!!
February 14th – a date typically either loved or hated. We are all fully aware this is a “Hallmark Holiday” – geniuses right?! But without acknowledging it, you are bound to make someone feel upset. So what are you going to do for the loves in your life? Here are some ideas to get the juices flowing….
♥ The obvious card and chocolates may seem simple, but is definitely always appreciated! And you can make the card more specific like this one if you’re partner is Breaking Bad fan!
♥ Who wouldn’t love a sappy, romantic message on twitter or facebook posted for everyone to see? Well maybe some people, but if your partner is always on social media, join them for one day through a post direct JUST to them!
♥ Send something to their place of work. Always an unexpected but pleasant and welcomed surprise.
♥ Before they leave for work, head on over to your friend and/or lovers house and leave a little something on their windshield. What a great way to start the day! A card, a handwritten note, or maybe a Starbucks card so they can treat themselves on their drive in.
♥ Prepare dinner. If you are not the one who typically does the cooking, treat your partner to a relaxing evening where the food is prepared for them. Maybe grab some flowers and a nice bottle of wine on the way home as well 😉
♥ Sneak out the night before and leave a surprise in your partners car. A treat to enjoy with lunch or a nice gift! And if you notice the tank is almost empty, take the car for a quick spin and fill it up for them – everyone can appreciate that during this cold winter!
♥ If your partner has a hobby, give them something related to that hobby. A new XBOX game, a new toolbox (filled with candy of course), a new bottle of red wine for them to try, a new golf shirt….the list can go on!
Hopefully that is enough to get your wheels turning! And as you may have noticed, everything listed above is cost-effective! You don’t need to spend tons of money to make someone feel special. Be thoughtful and be creative!
For me, Valentine’s Day is a holiday I like to acknowledge but don’t necessarily need to celebrate. I know – being a wedding coordinator and a lover of all things love-ly, aren’t you slightly surprised? A card and some chocolate will do just fine for me! Ever since I can remember, my first love (Dad of course!) has had a thoughtful card and box of chocolates waiting for my mom and I when we woke up. Just perfect! And I can always count on my true love to surprise me with something! Anthony and I tend to go out for dinner mid-week when we don’t feel like cooking so making a reservation on Valentine’s Day isn’t really our thing. Typically, we like to spend the evening with friends and family, whoever is around and in the same spirit as we are. Enjoying an evening with great company and a glass or two of wine is just perfect for us.
Now it’s 2 days away… what are your plans for, and with, the special people in your life? What are you hoping for?
As promised in a previous post, I want to give you a little re-cap of this past year. To say it was amazing is an understatement. The year absolutely flew by! I am so thankful for all of the experiences that have brought me to where I am today.
January 28th is officially Jackie Penner Events 1 Year Anniversary! Yay!! I hummed and hahhed about whether to do something about my first anniversary. I tend to minimally acknowledge anniversaries in my personal life and since JPE is so personal, I thought I’d stick to being me – no parties, no fancy gifts (although I did treat myself to new business cards…exciting right?!), just a post to share and reflect on what a truly incredible year this has been!
For the longest time, I have always had my heart set of planning weddings. I just love love ♥ plain and simple. Dreaming about being a part of a couple’s special day has always made me feel excited, motivated and now extremely grateful. While my idea was to establish a career, get married, have children and THEN start my own wedding coordinating business, things just don’t always go according to plan. It was my biggest supporter and most patient partner that kicked this dream into a reality sooner than I had ever anticipated. Without his encouragement and constant motivation, I would not be where I am today.
Always in my corner. Love you ♥
And now, a little taste of what the first year of JPE looked like….
Officially established JPE and began running full speed! Figured out the difference between sole-proprietorship and incorporation, bought a domain name, setup a Facebook Page and lots of other fun, administrative tasks. Near the end of the month I had the pleasure of meeting with the talented Leslie Babin. With little instruction from me, she created the JPE logo…
1 year later & I am still obsessed with the logo! Thank you Leslie!
A highly anticipated month, we jetted down to Jamaica with 26 other people for an unforgettable destination wedding. This was actually the first trip Anthony and I took together, but what made it even better was that it was the wedding of one of his older brothers. I will let these few photos do the talking for this truly gorgeous wedding that has made a lifetime of memories for everyone who was there.
June 29th marked the first ‘official’ JPE wedding. When I met Danielle for the first time in March, I instantly knew her wedding to Geoff would be romantic, laid-back and full of personal touches. The two planned an afternoon ceremony and reception at Archeo Restaurant in the Distillery District, Toronto. The afternoon sky was full of dark clouds and a few rain drops, but just like the movies, the clouds parted and the sun was shining as these two lovebirds said ‘I do’. Michelle Yee captured the day with ease, while Ian from the Dj & Co. ensured the dance floor was full the entire evening. Guests enjoyed drinks on the patio, a delicious meal, entertaining speeches, and a late night treat from Glory Hole Donuts. Danielle & Geoff, you are too sweet for words and I am thankful I was able to be a part of your special day. A sneak peak at some of their lovely photos and more to come I promise!
Prep, prep, and more prep! With two weddings on the horizon, less than one week apart from each other, and only one month after #thebreens said ‘I do’, July was busy but wonderful. The month was jam packed with meetings, table mock-ups, last minute day-of schedule changes, finishing DIY décor elements, and much more!
Sunday, August 4, 2013 marked another VERY special day. After 8 months of vigorous wedding planning, the day had finally arrived for Joanna and Dennis to become husband and wife. The ceremony took place at the breathtaking Hart House on the University of Toronto Campus. Although it was an early morning with the ceremony scheduled to begin at 11:00 am, Monika and her team from Makeup Worx had the Bride and her 11 bridesmaids looking absolutely flawless. The reception for 250 of their friends and family was held at the beautiful Atlantis Pavilions (Joanna’s dream venue BTW). Guests were entertained by speeches, or should I say ‘roasts’, Snapz Photobooth, Maximum Music, and an extraordinary Same-Day-Edit. The incredibly talented team from Love Madly, Wanda and Brian, were onsite to capture the ENTIRE day! Now after all of that, wouldn’t you love to see these gorgeous photos? Well, my lovelies, you will have to wait :)!
A mere six days later, JPE was back at it with the wedding of Tori & Dan. This adorable couple, with their beautiful baby boy Mason, were married at the Burlington Golf & Country Club on Saturday, August 10th. Following what was an emotional and stunning ‘first-look’, the three joined their family and friends at the golf club to exchange vows. The fun-loving, rowdy guests were undoubtedly mesmerized by the obvious love Tori and Dan share for each other and for Mason. I will let the brilliant images from Brian Reilly Photography speak for themselves. I simply cannot get enough of the photos from this perfect day…
A new and improved JPE website created and designed by Ivonne Karamoy officially launched. An overly generous gift from a previous client made this website redesign happen sooner than I anticipated. I cannot tell you how happy I am with how it turned out and how thankful I am.
Lauren & Ben’s wedding was a very special day for me. Lauren and I have literally known one another since we were born. Our moms are best friends and we lived behind one another until we were 13 years old. Helping to coordinate her wedding brought us so much closer. It was a complete honour to be a part of her special day when she married her best friend Ben on December 21st at the Cambridge Mill. While the weather was not ideal, guests were not fazed as they witnessed Lauren & Ben become husband and wife and we even got to see them kiss (many of us for the first time even though they have been together for a decade!). Bassem Photography captured all of the meaningful moments throughout the day and guests rocked out to the Itchy N Scratchy Band. Oh and I can’t forget to mention that the band had a token drummer during a couple of their songs…the groom himself. Unknowingly to many, Ben has a killer talent for the drums and made the day even more special and memorable for himself, Lauren and their guests…
Now with more than double the number of weddings booked for JPE in year 2, I could not be more thrilled. I’d first like to thank all of my friends and family for your overwhelming support — there are too many of you special people to mention. A big thank you to my previous clients, and now new friends. Your confidence in allowing me to be a part of your special day has been so meaningful as I continue to pursue wedding coordinating. Thank you to my current and future clients for putting your trust in me, for sharing your hopes, dreams, and expectations, and for your enthusiasm in working together to make your day just perfect! And finally, another thank you to my constant supporter, biggest fan and main squeeze. You are what makes me who I am and what pushes me to be better.
While JPE took a little break from social media over the holidays to catch up on office/storage organization, quality time with friends and family, and general R&R, we were thinking about what 2014 has in store. 2013 was such an incredible year (details about its incredible-ness to come later this month), that it would be hard not to be motivated and completely thrilled about what 2014 has in store.
To keep it short, here are just a few things already in the calendar that we are looking forward to for 2014:
♥ Photo-shoot scheduled with the amazingly, talented and hilarious Brian Reilly Photography (This gem of a photographer will not only make you feel comfortable in front of a camera but make your entire experience fun!)
♥ Long-time, elementary school and childhood friend is getting married to her decade-long boyfriend on March 8th. I am completely honoured she has asked me to help with the decor on her big day!
♥ Already surpassed the number of weddings booked for 2014 that I was fortunate enough to be a part of in 2013 (Yay!)
♥ The opportunity to work with multiple new vendors and venues, including the gorgeous Fermenting Cellar in the Distillery District, Toronto, the breath-taking Windermere Manor in London ON, and more unique and inspiring spaces. I CAN’T WAIT!
♥ Previous clients expecting 2014 babies! AHH! (Congrats Sarah & Matt and Congrats Danielle & Geoff!! I am sooo extremely elated for the both of you!)
Looking forward to 2014 which is open-ended with limitless possibilities and filled with LOTS of love and loveliness!
Stay tuned for details of why 2013 was such a great year for JPE!
