Laid back Love Affair ♥ Burlington Golf & Country Club

Where do I begin with these two lovebirds…

When I received the call from the groom’s mother indicating she thought this amazing couple would need some assistance planning their big day, I could not have been more excited!  Having planned many events herself, the mother of the groom knew exactly how important a wedding planner would be.  She knew this busy couple would benefit from some assistance leading up to their big day, and most importantly on the day-of. Did I mention these two sweethearts have the most adorable son, Mason?  Hence where the business comes into play!  All the more reason to invest in a little help to ensure they would enjoy their day as guests with their son, Mason, surrounded by loving family and friends.

When I met with Tori and Dan for the first time, I immediately knew this wedding would have a laid-back feel and the room would be completely full of love and support.  Tori and Dan’s wedding would be a day to celebrate their gorgeous little family and Mason’s steel blue eyes and blond hair would for sure be a show-stopper.  As we planned their August wedding day, Tori was very much a DIY bride and Dan wanted nothing more than for Tori to have the day of her dreams.

Saturday, August 10th began as Tori and her maids were pampered in Burlington and Dan, the groomsmen and of course Mason (the best man by the way!) prepping in Waterdown.  The two groups met a friend’s country property north ofBurlington for the bride and groom reveal.  As you can see from the gorgeous photos by Brian Reilly Photography, this was an amazing moment between these three.

The ceremony and reception took place at the Burlington Golf & Country Club and we could not have dreamed of better weather.  The view of the lake and golf course from the ceremony was just perfect.  The cool air from the water offset the August sun to ensure all of the guests felt comfortable as the couple said I Do.  Tori and Dan wrote their own vows and of course Mason was right there with them throughout the emotional ceremony.

I love how many kisses Tori got from the most important men in her life. I especially love this little moment between Dan and Tori which of course Brian Reilly was able to capture!

As guests enjoyed cocktail hour and the family took photos on the grounds of the course, Tori’s dad had a special surprise for his only daughter and the rest of the family. On the day Tori was born, her dad was given a bottle of Champagne. He kept this bottle for the day that his daughter would marry the love of her life.  Both Tori and Dan’s immediate families enjoyed this special bottle together. The families toasted to the future happiness and long-standing love affair between Tori and Dan and now their handsome boy Mason.

I cannot say enough about how this loving family was an absolute pleasure to work with.  I will forever cherish being a part of their wedding and how it embodied the true importance of marriage, love and family.

Dizennio Floral – What To Do?!

Just yesterday, I caught wind of a very unfortunate situation – Dizennio Floral located in Vaughan was forced to close their doors.  My heart breaks for all of the couples affected by this.  The abrupt closing of this floral/decor studio is shocking.  Even more shocking is the fact that they have kept the deposits from couples who booked with them, some I imagine months and months ago.  On top of the list when planning a wedding is booking your essential vendors  –  this includes flowers/decor.  I can imagine the anxiety, stress and sadness that these couples are currently feeling.

A couple of year’s ago, a similar situation occurred in this area with a wedding venue.  Couples were left in a complete panic searching for somewhere to hold their wedding, some on extremely short notice (I’m talking weeks people!). Logistically, these couples were faced with a big challenge.  The task to find a location they liked, that still had openings available (fingers crossed on their scheduled day), that their hired vendors could adapt to AND ensuring all of the guests were informed of the changes, was an immense undertaking.  Being a planner, I was on the phone right away to get as much information as possible for the couples left in this tragic position!

If you, or someone you know, is affected by the closing of Dizennio Floral, please get in touch.  I have posted on Facebook and Twitter offering to help these couples in any way I can.  My help starts with a complimentary bridal bouquet and that is just the beginning. Imaging what these brides are feeling right now completely breaks my heart.

Rest assured, I promise to help you turn this situation around, forget it ever happened, and ensure your wedding is even better!

Spread the news lovelies – JPE is on the ground and ready to help!

Helpful Hints

Below are some helpful hints to keep in mind while you are planning your wedding! Enjoy and let me know what you think!

Talk about the $$

Talk about numbers and settle on a budget. When settling on the budget be open and clear with those involved who want to help.  Try to get this conversation out of the way as soon as you can so you can move forward with the planning.

Set your priorities

Before getting deep into the planning, sit down as a couple and figure out what are the most important aspects of the big day to both of you. Be willing to spend a bit more on those items and a bit less on the items that are less important to you. For example, if you want to have a really great party and dance until the wee hours, invest a little more into a high class DJ or band and save on the invitations if they are less of a concern.

Be organized or outsource it!

You may not know it quite yet but the amount of details that goes into planning a wedding is unbelievable! With this forewarning, either get yourself organized and hire someone to help you! It doesn’t hurt to invest in someone that will take some of the stress of planning off of your hands and ensure you do not miss anything! Hiring a professional wedding planner  can be the best investment for your sanity throughout the engagement, during days leading up to the wedding and of course on the big day!  Contrary to the rumors, a wedding planner can also help you SAVE money!

Be open to compromise.

Although it appears the wedding is mainly about you and your fiancé, there are many others involved.  Your wedding day is just as important (and sometimes more) to your parents and families as well. You know what is most important to you so don’t be afraid to make a firm decision in those areas. However, if you are indifferent about certain things, like the style of cake you have for example, let someone else who wants to be involved help take the lead in that department.

Make it personal

Little touches that are personal to you and your fiancé are great to incorporate into the day. Think about things you like to do together, the first date you had, inspiration can come from anywhere in your relationship! Use that inspiration in the details of the day, the seating chart, the guest book or the place cards!

Bring a cover up

Something you probably don’t think about when going dress shopping with your ladies is the time in between trying on gowns. Make sure to bring a robe or cover up with you. Having something like this will ensure you are not trapped in the fitting room in your underwear! With a robe on hand, you can mingle with the girls and enjoy some champagne in between trying on those beautiful dresses.

Ceremony Decor

When planning what decor you would like to include in your ceremony, remember where the focus is.  Whether your ceremony is a sweet 20 minutes long or a full hour long mass, the attention is on you and your soon-to-be husband/wife. Simple, cost effective touches for the ceremony can go a long way – a few pew markers and two arrangements at the front is all you really need. Bonus: the arrangements at the front of the aisle can be reused in the reception space!

Number you RSVPs!

I have no doubt in my mind that you have heard this before – which is why I want to remind you AGAIN! Please save yourself the headache and give each RSVP a number on the back. You will be surprised by the number of responses either a) you do not get back, b) are filled out incorrectly, or c) have no names on them. With numbered RSVPs associated with each invitation, it will be a hell-of-a-lot easier to follow up with these people rather than searching, guessing and trying to figure it out.

Ask for references.

You are entrusting many people to carry out your big day – do not be afraid to ask for references. If they do not have any written recommendations (or ‘Sweet Words’) on their website, ask them to provide you with names and contact information for previous clients. Getting to know the people you are hiring will ensure you are able to relax on the big day knowing you have done your homework and they are the right fit for you.

Take a break!

Okay, if you are planning a wedding in 6 months you likely don’t have time for a break, but everyone else, take one! Get the big things out of the way and booked and give you and your fiancé a bit of breathing room. Right after the engagement and right before the wedding are obviously not ideal times but in between that, there is time. Go away for the weekend or even enjoy a staycation at the house, but promise to not talk about the wedding for that period of time.

My Perfect Day…

Last week I had the opportunity to share with the Burlington Downtown Business Association what #myperfectday would be downtown Burlington (#BurlON).  While there is always something going on, too many pretty things to see and a crazy amount of hidden treasures downtown #BurlON, I was forced narrow it down. Take a stroll with me through what would be my perfect day downtown Burlington…

JACKIE’S PERFECT DAY
Posted: Mar 13, 2014

“As a self-pro-claimed coffee snob, there is no doubt that my perfect day downtown Burlington would start at Tamp Coffee Co. Their appreciation for great coffee and organic coffee beans pulls at my heart strings on a daily basis.

I would grab an extra coffee to go and head around the corner to Salon Red, where I’d join my favourite stylist Kandis for a wash and blow-dry. Going in to Salon Red is a definite treat for me to relax and unwind. I look forward to every time I walk in there and Kandis is a star.

225611_814536486095_4410665_n

With the brisk, fall air blowing through my freshly styled hair, I would stroll over to Pure Organic Floral Boutique. Not only is everything in the store completely breathtaking in my eyes, the ladies are an absolute pleasure to visit. Whether I’m going in to swoon over all of their beautiful things or order personalized gifts for clients, I always leave feeling inspired with a full heart.

As if that wasn’t enough beauty for me, my next destination would be Fairhome on Brant Street. I always love the setup of their dining room table at the front of the store and am continuously on the lookout for new pieces of Brighton jewellery (my mom’s favourite jewellery and the only place I can find it locally).

My final stop on this perfect day would be at Pepperwood Bistro on Lakeshore. With a comfortable atmosphere and craft beer on tap, it is my favourite spot to enjoy a cold pint – the Pepperwood Framboise is my absolute favourite.

Cheers!”

*Lovelies – if we EVER get rid of the snow and anyone wants to tag along, feel free to let me know 😉
